Sunday School

Sally is ready to teach the Daystar Class

At Concord, we believe that Christian Education is an essential part of our Church’s ministry and our personal discipleship.  Sunday School happens at 9:45 a.m., every Sunday of the year.  We offer classes for Children of God of any age, from our youngest friends in the Martha Ellen Jones Toddler Nursery to classes for children and youth, to four classes for adults offering a variety of formats and courses of study.

Concord’s Classes for Children, Youth, and Adults

The Toddler Nursery: In a class for our youngest friends, our children start learning the stories of our faith from their earliest days.  They are taught and tended by a faithful team of volunteers, including Martha Ellen Jones, who has tended our nursery for more than 40 years.  This class meets in the Wiley building.

Kindergarten Class: The class for our children in kindergarten.  This class meets upstairs in the sanctuary building.

At the Montreat Youth Conference

Our youth groups meet on Sunday nights through the school year from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Our elementary school group gathers for lessons, games, music, and service projects. They sing in the annual Children’s choir festival and lead our Mother’s Day service. Our Middle School and Senior High groups play games, prepare music and worship for FOUR youth Sundays a year, they learn about God, faith, and life together, they go on trips, and work both inside and outside of the church. They provide fundraiser meals throughout the year. They are leaders in our annual Bible School. They go on mission trips and send a group to the Montreat Youth Conference. They serve as liturgists and ushers in worship. The move tables in the fellowship hall for practically every event we have. Our youth program is the heart and soul of Concord Presbyterian Church!

Vacation Bible School

Our children at Vacation Bible School

Concord partners with three other churches for an awesome Vacation Bible School week every June. Our children meet characters, right of the Bible, who share what it was like to face challenges and discover God love in their day.  They learn both authentic and contemporary songs and dances in music time.  They make Bible times crafts in our marketplace.  And there is always plenty of time for play during our recreation time. Our children come home from Bible School, excited to share how they saw the stories of the Bible come to life.

We hold Vacation Bible School in mid to late June from Sunday to Thursday.  On Friday night, we end our week with a closing program of music and worship, a cookout, with special guests and the crowd favorite bouncy-slide out on the lawn.

Cub Scout Pack 607 and Boy Scout Troop 607

Concord sponsors two award-winning scouting groups that both meet on Monday nights at 7:00 p.m.. Our Cub Scouts meet through the school year in our fellowship hall and Sunday school rooms. Our Boy Scouts meet in the sanctuary basement throughout the year. Our church is very welcoming to scouting and has a long and proud history of involvement with these two groups. Our program has produced at least one Eagle Scout per year for the last 20 years. Our playground, prayer patio, food pantry, youth room, and nursery have all been renovated through the hard work of our scouts. All these young men work hard to learn life skills and lessons that build character and faith. They are always looking for new members!
