Second Sundays are often set aside for church fellowship activities. Some opportunities for fellowship and fun throughout the year include our “Concord’s Got Talent” dinner in the spring, our Christmas in August and Shoe Box Packing Party in November for Operation Christmas Child, movie night, bingo night, Rally Day in September, our Mother’s Day luncheon, and our Church Family Picnic at Lookout Shoals Lake in June.
The Concord Challengers are a group of seniors in our congregation who meet the fourth Thursday of every month for a fun outing together. We go out for breakfast and lunch. We visit our members in the nursing homes, often sharing communion with them. Over the last few years, we have toured the Billy Graham Library, traveled to the Barter Theater and Blowing Rock, visited the Statesville Stained Glass Factory and Barium Springs, toured the historic sites in Valdese, and enjoyed a trip to Mabry Mill. Our Concord Challengers are always on the go. There is no age limit for our Challengers. Challengers is for the young at heart of any age!
The Concord Book Club meets monthly on Thursday evenings. We spend time discussing our latest book, and then enjoy refreshments and fellowship in one another’s homes. We have read books by Mitch Albom and William Paul Young, books about life after death and books on being Presbyterian, books on Spiritual gifts and living “Biblically” for a year. We’re always looking for a good book to read.
The Presbyterian Women of Concord have two women’s circles who meet throughout the year on the first Tuesday of the month. Circle #1 meets at 10:30 a.m. and Circle #2 meets at 7:00 p.m. Our women’s circles also attend conferences, provide meals for families during times of bereavement, send care packages to our college students, and hold events for the entire church Family like our P.W. Christmas Dinner and two Craft Bazaar Bake Sales, one in the spring before Easter and one in the Fall before Thanksgiving. At our P.W. Bazaars, you can find a perfect gift for a loved one, a yard sale treasure, a made from scratch breakfast, a classic car show, and a delicious dessert, just in time for your holiday meal!
Men of the Church
The Men of Concord Presbyterian Church meet periodically throughout the year on Sunday mornings before Sunday School and worship. The Men of the Church have breakfast together and welcome guest speakers. They also provide breakfast for the whole church after our Easter Sunrise Service and they serve a pre-game dinner to the West Iredell Football Team in the fall.
Camp Grier Retreats
On the third weekend in May and again on the third weekend of October, members of Concord Church travel to Camp Grier, a Presbyterian Camp in Old Fort, NC., for a weekend of recreation and relaxation. We canoe, fish, hike up to sliding rock and the fire tower, play football, baseball and four square, and we visit with one another amidst God’s beautiful creation. On Saturday evening, we share a meal together and have an evening devotional. Members are welcome to come for the day or stay over on Saturday night.
