The Concord Presbyterian Church Food Pantry ministers to the poor and hungry of Iredell and Alexander Counties. We distribute bags of groceries (10 items), including essentials like detergent and toiletries, to families once a month. We also have clothing and other donated gifts available to our clients. We operate a client choice food pantry. Clients are encouraged to take only what they need, in order to help us better provide for all.
The Concord Food Pantry is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Only one bag is given per household per month. Identification is required.
The Food Pantry is staffed and stocked by dedicated volunteers from the congregation. If you would like to contribute, we accept canned food and monetary donations. We could also use extra volunteers. On the third Sunday of every month, members of Concord are encouraged to bring donations for the pantry with them to worship. Our food pantry is generously supported by our Scout program, Dollar General, Food Lion, and the LDS Food Distribution Service.
Concord has a long tradition of sending its youth on mission trips. Our Senior Highs have traveled to New York City, Washington D.C., Jacksonville, Orlando, Atlanta, and the Gulf Coast. More recently our Middle School Youth have traveled to Atlanta and Morehead City, North Carolina. On these trips, our youth work hard, they learn, and they begin to see the connection between the faith we talk about on Sundays and the work that God is doing in the world.
Operation Christmas Child
Concord’s Westminster Sunday School Class sponsors our congregation’s Operation Christmas Child shoe box collection. Throughout the year, the class collects gifts, toiletries, school supplies, and toys- whatever will fit in a shoe box!- In August, the class sponsors “Christmas in August” a time for the whole church to come together to wrap shoe boxes and organize supplies. In November, the class holds our shoe box packing party. Since 2009, we have been able to pack and send 300 boxes a year. Our Shoe boxes travel all over the world with Franklin Graham’s Operation Christmas Child ministry, which shares these gifts and the gospel with children in need of both. Concord has tracked boxes to the Ukraine, to Iraq, to South America, and to Saudi Arabia.
Concord partners with local agencies like Yokefellow Ministries of Greater Statesville, Fifth Street Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity do help those in need in our community.
We proudly sponsor and support Scotts Elementary, West Iredell Middle School, and West Iredell High School.
Concord has sponsored mission coworkers in Kenya and South Sudan.
Concord collects Salem Presbytery’s Pennies for Hunger Offering on the first Sunday of each month. This offering supports both local and international ministries through grants for direct hunger relief. Our children collect the offering during worship.
Concord has supported Presbyterian Disaster Assistance’s flood and hurricane relief efforts as needs arise. We have collected clean water for Flint, Michigan and health kits for Haiti.
In 2017, we are sponsoring events for local Firefighters and EMS workers and sponsoring a Blood Drive for the Red Cross.
